Siren: Blood Curse for the Playstation 3 is a remake of the original Siren game that was released for the Playstation 2 in late 2004. Although Silent Hill and Resident Evil games have been such big hits up until now, Siren was ignored by majority of the people who love horror-survival games. Despite its unpopularity in the United States, SCEA gives Siren one more chance to shine as they release Siren: Blood Curse on the Playstation 3 via the Playstation Network. Will this game have the essence of what we call a horror-survival game?
Siren: Blood Curse is divided into 12 chapter-like episodes and can be thought of as if watching a TV series. Each episode in the game can be rather short or long depending on how well the player plays. Expect to see some cliffhangers at the end of each episode but it is possible to go ahead and continue playing the next episode to find out more about the plot. If you’ve enjoyed watching TV series like Supernatural, you can treat this game the same without the commercials, so the thrill and excitement continues within this game.
The sight jack ability will help you along the way! Use it Wisely!
The game takes place in a deserted village in Japan where the American TV Crew members are in search of something supernatural for part of their news story. With their curiosity in the village, they don’t realize that they are entering a hell hole they can never escape. Control 7 Different characters in the game through 12 episodes as they try to find and solve the mystery of the Shibito in the deserted village of Hayanuda Village.Fans of the Silent Hill and Resident Evil games will find some similarities to this game in terms of gameplay. Most of the time, the player will be venturing through dark places and have to rely on their guts. There will be times when the player will have to go through an episode without a weapon at all and all they can do is rely on their sneaking ability. However, one of the things that can really help the player finish this game is the character’s ability called ?gsight jack?h. With ?gsight jack?h they will be able to see through the eyes of the Shibito or other people around the character. This can be used to great advantage in locating the Shibito.
Siren: Blood Curse is one of the horror games that can be expect to freak anyone out. Turn the lights off and volume way up to truly enjoy this game. From the first epsiode through the end, Siren: Blood Curse is 100% guaranteed to keep the user playing at night if looking for a great scare. If games like Resident Evil do not scare you, this game will. Through its dark environments and excellent execution of soundtracks in this game, there’s no doubt that the game is one of the scariest games you will ever play.
Am I cute enough for you?
Although this game is on the Playstation 3, don’t expect it to be truly amazing when it comes to graphics. Siren: Blood Curse is like the high definition version of a Playstation 2 game in wide screen. Playing on a 1080p TV will make the game somehow realistic, but it still falls in the category of a Playstation 2. Throughout most of the game the user will be revisiting old places over and over.
Overall, Siren: Blood Curse is the game I expected it to be. Through its compelling storyline that keeps you playing through the end with its scary feel, there is no better horror-survival game I’ve played. The game itself did a huge improvement over to the Playstation 2 version of the game. There is no doubt SCEE will be remaking the second Siren game that was never released in the United States!
Siren Blood Curse is now available for purchase on the Playstation Store. It’s divided into 3 different bundle packs containing 4 episodes each for $14.99. By buying the whole game for $39.99, you’ll be saving $5. The game is Rated M by the ESRB.
SCORING BREAKDOWN:STORY- 9.5/10
Siren: Blood Curse is like a TV series that you can watch over and over again and still feel the scary atmosphere. Why can’t they just make this game a TV series?
GAMEPLAY – 9.6/10
Controlling 7 different characters throughout the game is a good way to tell the story of this game. Each character played will be connected to one another as the story progresses and twists will be unveiled. Playing by yourself in a dark place will surely let you feel the atmosphere the game is trying to convey.
MUSIC – 9.4/10
Perfect soundtrack for a horror-survival game. Voice acting is decent but not outstanding enough to be considered a 10/10. The screams and cries of the Shibito will scare the hell out of anyone.
GRAPHICS – 8.7/10
Not PS3 graphics, but in this game it is decent enough. Prepare to explore dark environments and survive in the hands of a Shibito.
OVERALL – 9.3/10
Siren: Blood Curse is one hell of an amazing game! Prepare to give yourself a scare for the night and let the Shibito scream!
