X-men Origins: Wolverine Review

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009 by Ryan L. Lopees

 Title: X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Developer/Publisher: Raven Software/Activision
Platform: PC, Playstation 2, Playstation 3, PSP, Wii, DS, Xbox 360
Release Date: 05/01/2009
Number of Players: Single-player

Let me open by stating the fact that I actually have yet to see the film. Normally, that is a good thing with video game tie-in titles. However, from everything I’ve heard the movie does the IP just as much justice as the game. That said, and after having puts hours upon hours into the game, let’s get our Snikt! on and see how Raven Soft handled the latest Wolverine title.

The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena Review

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009 by Zach Potts

Title: The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena
Developer/Publisher: Starbreeze AB / Atari
Platform: Xbox 360, PS3, PC
Release Date: 04/7/2009
Number of Players: 1 single player, 2-12 online

The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena is a sequel to 2004’s Xbox exclusive Escape from Butcher Bay. Dark Athena plays almost identically to Butcher Bay, featuring the same first-person perspective and including many similar mechanics, but naturally having a unique storyline which follows Riddick on a quest to escape a prisoner ship and the clutches of some ruthless mercenaries. Not only does Dark Athena feature this all new adventure, but it also includes the original Butcher Bay game, except newly remastered with enhanced graphics, as well as some online multiplayer.

Congrats to Microsoft!

Sunday, April 12th, 2009 by Ryan L. Lopees

Yes, congratulations are indeed in order. For what you may ask? For being the first console I’ve ever owned to go bottoms-up on me. As of 11:19pm Pacific my Xbox 360 Elite, allegedly more stable in its hardware than previous models, opted to take a steamer on itself. When I powered the unit up today to check out Flock from Capcom the unit hissed loudly then locked the screen, leaving it pixelated. Upon a reboot I was greeted by the famed and dreaded 3 Red Rings of Death. The unit is listed as “out of standard warranty” despite the extension provided a while back retro-actively by Microsoft. This unit would have turned two years old on the 29th of this month.

Supposedly, the 3 RRoD is still covered as per Microsoft’s own warranty page (though all links to the extension announced a while back have mysteriously disappeared). Honestly, this is no shock to me. In the years I’ve worked in the IT industry Microsoft has crapped out on me more than any other companies combined. In other news, my launch Wii and Playstation 3 60GB models are still running fine. Thankfully, we have a debug 360 handy here as well. Of course, that doesn’t diminish my disappointment in Microsoft yet again. I’ll talk to them on Monday and give them a stern tongue-lashing and we’ll see what they have to say.

Tom Clancy’s HAWX Review

Thursday, April 9th, 2009 by Ryan L. Lopees

Title: Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X.
Developer/Publisher: Ubisoft
Platform: Windows PC, Playstation 3, Xbox 360
Release Date: 3/06/2009 consoles, 3/17/2009 PC
Number of Players: Single player, 4 player Co-Op, 8 Player Versus

Despite the cheesy, acronym-heavy title, which from this point on I will spell HAWX, Tom Clancy’s HAWX is another welcome title in the Tom Clancy series of games. A nice departure, though, players are no longer ground-bound. In HAWX players finally take flight to the skies of the Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter universe. Finally, we all get to play as the air support we’ve called numerous times in the GRAW series of games. The burning question is whether or not this Clancy game works with wings. The short answer, yes.

Resident Evil 5 Review

Monday, April 6th, 2009 by Ryan L. Lopees

Title: Resident Evil 5
Developer/Publisher: Capcom
Platform: Playstation 3 and Xbox 360
Released Date: 3/13/2009
Number of Players: Single player and 2 Player Co-op

It’s hard to figure out where to start with my review of Resident Evil 5. The Resident Evil series of games has long since been one my favourite series. Those of you how have been reading my writing for the last couple years know that survival-horror is far and above my favourite genre of games. Resident Evil was actually one of the two titles that enticed me to buy my first Playstation (the other involved cars, guns, and a crazy clown… see if you can guess). While it goes without saying I will say it anyway, Resident Evil 5 had made its way onto my personal radar the moment it was announced. Now, I’ve played through the bugger 5 times. How did reality hold up to the hype? Read on.

The Lost and The Damned Review

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009 by Ryan L. Lopees

Title: The Lost and the Damned
Developer/Publisher: Rockstar North/ Rockstar Games
Platform: Xbox 360
Release Date: 2/17/2009
Number of Players: Single Player, 2-16 Online, 2-4 Co-op

After promises of “exclusive” content for the Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto IV were made prior to the game’s release, we finally see the first of the two exclusives in The Lost of The Damned. The burning question that was on the minds of just about every GTA IV player out there (on the Xbox 360 that is) was whether or not the “expansion” justified its $20 USD price-tag. Well, I can give you the long answer or the short answer, which would you prefer? Oh, who am I kidding? When do I ever give short answers? Looks like you’re just going to have to read all about it to find out, huh?

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009 by Ryan L. Lopees

While it’s not directly related to gaming news I thought I would share a tidbit with those of you who, like me, like to try to give back to the community when we can. Capcom, in conjunction with the American Red Cross, have a nice little community event planned for Resident Evil 5 on March 13th.

Come Give Resident Evil 5 A Shot and…

Make A Positive Change For the Community on Resident Evil 5 Launch Day
