Excitebike World Rally coming to WiiWare

Monday, October 26th, 2009 by Zach Potts

Announced today in the latest installment of Nintendo Week on the Wii’s Nintendo Channel, Excitebike World Rally is a “remake” of the original NES title for WiiWare, and will be released on November 9th.

The game will still be on a 2D plane, but feature a 3D environment and sprites. World Rally will also feature online multiplayer, as well as a variety of control options, including motion control, which might be interesting.

No word on price yet, but it’ll probably be competitive.

Review - ColorZ

Friday, September 25th, 2009 by Zach Potts

Title: ColorZ
Publisher/Developer: Exkee/Exkee
Platforms: WiiWare
Release Date: 09/7/2009
Number of players: 1-3 players locally

ColorZ, a new WiiWare game, is one of the simplest in concept that I have played recently, but by golly, it isn’t easy. It starts off simply enough, allowing you to control a single ship through a level while trying to avoid dissimilar colored enemies, but once you start controlling 2 and 3 ships, it gets crazy. Do you have what it takes to navigate through all the levels? Maybe, but it’ll take some practice.

LostWinds Sequel Confirmed

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009 by Zach Potts

A sequel to one of the best WiiWare games to date, LostWinds: Winter of the Melodias, is set to one-up its predecessor with new puzzle elements, including the ability to change from summer to winter. This power will allow you to alter the environment, as well as your wind powers. Another new power at your disposal is the ability to create a cyclone, which can be used as a drill or to transport your character.

No news yet on price or release date, but it will still be exclusive to WiiWare.

Weekly Nintendo Update

Monday, May 25th, 2009 by Zach Potts

First let’s start with the DSi. This week, we get American Popstar: Road to Celebrity and Photo Clock. American Popstar costs 800 points, is for 1-4 players, and contains four musical mini-games, like guitar and singing, as well as has you talking with a variety of characters, taking pictures, and signing autographs, all to become a top star. Photo Clock costs a mere 200 points, and is an application that both displays the time, as well as your pictures. You can set up to 3 alarms and view the clock in digital or analog; joy.

There are another 3 games for the Wii this week, which include the new BUBBLE BOBBLE Plus!, ADVENTURE ISLAND® The Beginning, and the classic Clay Fighter. Bubble Bobble Plus! is 600 points, while the other two are 800 points. Bubble Bobble Plus! features the original 100 rounds, as well as an additional 100 new rounds, plus multiplayer action, plus an online competitive mode, plus the ability to download new content in one of two add-ons. Adventure Island: The Beginning is a new game in the series, which features similar island-adventuring gameplay as the NES original, as well as new mini-games. The last treasure on the list is Clay Fighter, which is a pretty interesting 2-player fighter that features 8 characters and some cool graphics.

Strong Bad’s CGFAP: 8-bit is Enough Review

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008 by Zach Potts

Yesterday brought the final chapter of the PC/WiiWare game Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People, with the last episode, entitled 8-bit is Enough, and I would have to say that it is probably their best effort yet.

The episode starts off where the last ended, with Strong Bad exclaiming, “Looks like I’m gonna have to juuummmmpppp!!!” and so he does, straight into the Trogdor arcade cabinet, breaking the logic unit and setting up a scenario such that Trogdor escapes from the machine and starts Burninating the country side. So, your goal is to find a new logic board and replace it, and then due to some craziness, must destroy Trogdor by going inside numerous video games and solving numerous puzzles.

Wiikly Update! 12/15

Monday, December 15th, 2008 by Zach Potts

Another week, another Monday, some more games for the Wii. This week brings the final entry in the Strong Bad series, and some other…um….gems?

For WiiWare, there is Strong Bad’s CGFAP: 8-Bit is Enough for 1,000 Wii Points, and Big Kahuna Party for 700 Points. In the final episode, 8-Bit is Enough, through a glitch in the arcade cabinet, Trogdor escapes his video game prison and transports to the real world, where he wreaks havoc, and Strong Bad has to find a way to put him back where he belongs. Big Kahuna Party is a tropical themed party game, with 99 levels and all sorts of unlockables and mini-games, where you can go head-to-head or play cooperatively.

For the VC, there is Enduro Racer for 500 Wii Points. Enduro Racer is a racing game where you ride a bike and try to avoid obstacles, while maintaining your fast speed and pacing a variety of cars and bikes.

Wiikly Update! 12/8

Monday, December 8th, 2008 by Zach Potts

More games this week, as the Wii’s online library is updated yet again, as it is every Monday.

For WiiWare this week, we get Bruiser and Scratch for 1,000 Wii Points and Hockey Allstar Shootout for 500 Wii Points. I’m not really sure what B&S is, but apparently, it is some sort of puzzle game that offers 48 puzzles in 6 landscapes and a challenge mode that has another 75 puzzles, and you can learn more from the developers at Steel Penny Games. HAS has you either playing the goalie or shooter, trying to block or score as much as you can. There are a few modes to play with, but you are basically doing the same thing in each.

For the VC, we get some more Sonic, in the form of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for 500 Wii Points. Like the original Sonic game, now there are two versions of Sonic 2 on the VC, with the original version on the Sega Genesis and now the Master System version. I really don’t understand why Sega is doing this or why Nintendo is allowing it, but alas.
