First Impressions: God of War III– “Eviscerations here… 12 for $0.10”

Friday, January 8th, 2010 by Flatliner

Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment America
Developer: Santa Monica Studios
Platform: PS3
ESRB Rating: Pending, but you know what’s up.

In what is almost assured to be the killer app of the first quarter (or at least Sony is hoping for it to be) Kratos, or as I like to call him, “that Fuzzy Little Teddy Bear” (aww… he’s so cute), is back for the third installment of the God of War saga. And let me tell you, boy, does he make a good third impression, in a multitude of ways.

Zuma PS3 Review

Thursday, March 19th, 2009 by Ryan L. Lopees

Title: Zuma
Developer/Publisher: Popcap Games
Platform: Playstation 3
Release Date: 02/19/2009
Number of Players: Single Player

Okay, just about everyone has had a chance to play Zuma or at the very least see it on some platform of another. And I am sure there are even some of you out there right now saying “Ryan, you listed the platform as PS3, Zuma is available on more than that”. You’re 100% right. Zuma, along with many of Popcap Games’ work, has pretty much made it to every gaming platform known to man. In fact, I am pretty sure they’ve busted out the time machine and even made sure there’s a version of Zuma for the ancient abacus. However, today’s review is for the PS3 version of the game and I feel it deserves a bit of focus as it is responsible for my PS3 controller being removed from my hands by the love of my life so that she can play. How’s this an accomplishment? She normally can’t stand video games.

Blood, It Does A Body Good!

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009 by Ryan L. Lopees

While it’s not directly related to gaming news I thought I would share a tidbit with those of you who, like me, like to try to give back to the community when we can. Capcom, in conjunction with the American Red Cross, have a nice little community event planned for Resident Evil 5 on March 13th.

Come Give Resident Evil 5 A Shot and…

For those of you with Xbox Live Gold accounts it’s time to go back into the dark. The demo for Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena is out now. For everyone else the demo will be available on the 11th for Silver member of XBL and “soon” for the Playstation Network, which probably means sometime next week.

Either way, you Gold Members and get your Dark on now. Just get online and get that demo!

F.E.A.R. Project Origin Review

Friday, February 13th, 2009 by Ryan L. Lopees

Title: F.E.A.R. Project Origin
Publisher/Developer: Warner Bros. Interactive/Monolith
Platform: PC, PS3, Xbox 360
Release Date: 02/10/2009
Number of Players: Single player campaign/ 16 player Multiplayer

As I set out to write this review (having stayed up till 4am to finish the game) I find myself still a bit torn. Did I like this game or not? Well, obviously that’s always a question in mind of a review writer, but I find myself unable to fully answer that question. I think it may be due, in part, to my expectations and, perhaps, my recollection of the previous title (yes, I am ignoring a certain titles which were NOT F.E.A.R.). The other part that may be interfering with my clear view of FEAR 2 is that I have been inundated with horror titles over the last year.

Looking Back at 2008 - The Force Unleashed

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009 by Ryan L. Lopees

Title: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
Publisher/Developer: Lots, read in the review for the skinny.
Platforms: PS2, PS3, PSP, Wii, Xbox 360, DS, and Mobile Phones
Release Date: 9/16/2008
Number of players/Multiplayer: Single-player (though the Wii version will have duel-mode)

Another piece in our “Looking Back at 2008″ series takes us back to Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. If ever there was a game in 2008 that evoked such passionate debates between the “lovers” and “haters”, The Force Unleashed is most definitely up there on the list. Considering the hype surrounding the game that’s really not much of a shocker. I fall into the former group, not the latter. For my two cents on The Force Unleashed read on.

Looking Back at 2008 - Metal Gear Solid 4

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009 by Ryan L. Lopees

Title: Metal Gear Solid 4
Publisher/Developer: Konami/Kojima Prod.
Platform: Playstation 3
Release Date: 06-12-2008
Number of Players: Single-Player (MGS4)/ 16 Online (MGO)

Looking back again at the goodies we received as gamers in 2008, I can’t look past Metal Gear Solid 4, no matter how much I try. I never did get around to writing a first review and for that I have shamed myself. Hopefully, I can rectify that today. Where to even begin on what has to be one of the grandest, most epic scale games I have ever had the grace of playing? 20 years of Metal Gear. I remember my 8-bit, glory days. In fact, I’d would say that some my earliest gaming memories entail Metal Gear. I am not sure I will be able to keep this review to my characteristically short review form (that was sarcasm). Every so often a game so huge, so massive, so ginormous comes about that there’s just no way getting around its grand details.

Dead Rising 2 Announced.

Monday, February 9th, 2009 by Ryan L. Lopees

Zombies are always welcome on my gaming consoles. Ninja v. Pirates, ha! Zombies would school them both. Well, Capcom has officially announced Dead Rising 2 today. The sequel to the 1.5 million copy selling Zombie-fest will actually be sauntering over to multiple platforms off-the-bat this time…

Lead:Part of a Healthy Gaming Breakfast

Friday, February 6th, 2009 by Ryan L. Lopees

If you’ve never heard of Matt Hazard and you find yourself wondering why is he returning, you’re not alone.

We’ve had it up to our eyeballs with parody movies, but what about parody games? Well, I’m a bit curious to say the very least. A game that is willing to play the straight-man while making tongue-in-cheek plays on the gaming industry for all it’s worth? Yeah, you know you want to see it too. Well, how about a tasty little video coming in at nearly 18 minutes? G4TV has been nice enough to pass this along, so let’s see what all the fuss is about…

RE5 Demo Impressions

Friday, January 30th, 2009 by Daniel Sandoval

I’ve completed Resident Evil 4 about eight times on the GameCube and another four times on the Wii. Resident Evil 4 influenced several shooters of today like Gears of War and Dead Space, while revamping the Resident Evil series into something extraordinary. Does Resident Evil 5 live up to its predecessor? That is not what we should be pondering. Instead ask yourself this, do you want a prettier yet parallel experience to Resident Evil 4? Keep in mind that these are impressions of the demo. The title itself may or may not differ once it hits shelves.
