For a while now I’ve been milling about the new areas of coverage in which I would love to explore. To that end I present you, our readers, with the newest feature coverage here at Gamers Platform: Hidden Talents. Hidden Talents is a time for us, as a community, to explore some of the hidden or less known talents out there within the gaming industry. Perhaps an indie developers. Maybe a small publisher. You never know what you might find here since, to be frank, we never know what we might find here. I encourage all of our readers to take the time to submit for recognition any artist, developer, publisher or inidividual of whom you are a fan so that we can take share their talents with others.
Some of you may know, many of you may not, that I am a musician first and foremost in my artistic endeavors. As a musician, I thoughtit befitting that we kick off this new segment with a talent which I was pleased to happen upon while browing YouTube a bit. If you’ve not heard of Katethegreat19 before, you damned well are going to hear about her from me.
Not too terribly much to see here, but definitely something you’ll want to check out if you’re a fan of the series.
With this video, we see a little multiplayer action, which looks very similar to what was in the first and World at War, although it does seem to sport some faster, smoother mechanics/gameplay perhaps. Also featured in the video is the ability to choose your own kill streak bonuses. For instance, you did have radar, artillery, helicopter, etc, but here, it seems you can choose what you want for each streak. It looks like there will be five levels, each with 3 perks you can choose from. That’s pretty damn cool if you ask me, and should escalate the customization a bit more. Have a look.
Halo Legends is the 7-episode anime series planned to hit DVD and Blu-Ray early next year. Luckily, we have a trailer to view until that time, to see what each of the 5 creators are working on.
Personally, it seems a bit…out of character. It doesn’t seem like the Halo universe lends itself well to an anime; just seems strange and out of place. Oh well.
Band Hero, from Activision and Vicarious Visions, is planning to topple previous Guitar Hero games for the system. Instead of just featuring a guitar part, you can know enjoy both drums and vocals, with the ability to connect with up to 3 other players locally.
Not only will the game come with a guitar grip, like in previous GH games, but it will also come packaged with a rubber drum pad, which will sit over your face buttons and apparently allow for quick taps with good kick-back, allowing for some fun drumming. It looks a bit interesting to me, to say the least, but giving portable gamers the ability to play all the sections as the console counter-parts…pretty sweet.
The game will feature another 30 songs, and you’ll have the ability to fully customize your characters and instruments. There will also be 200 achievements that can be obtained via the single-player game. Hopefully, you’ve all held on to your DS Lites, because obviously, the this game won’t work on the DSi.
Look for the game coming out sometime in November.
Title: Red Faction: Guerrilla
Publisher/Developer: THQ/Volition
Platforms: PC, Playstation 3, Xbox
Release Date: 06/02/2009
Number of players/Multiplayer: 1 player, online multiplayer support (21 maps up to 16 players)
Red Faction: Guerilla is a sand-box game that brings the classic struggle for the freedom of a colony from an oppressive motherland to life in a vibrant 3-D version of Mars. This is the third Red Faction title. I’ll not spoil your character’s motivation for joining the Red Faction, but I will say that the game provides you ample reasons to run around Mars, steal cars and blow stuff up. The story is not a tear jerker of an epic tail and in that regard it falls short of what it could have been. Guerilla improves on its predecessors’ notion of a completely destructible environment by moving the game play from the cryptic corridors and military bases to the open surface of Mars. This game eschews the claustrophobia of the previous Red Faction titles in favor of the great wide open spaces of the Martian Surface.
Yes, that’s right, the “Prestige Edition” of Modern Warfare 2, coming out on November 10th, will feature a real-working pair of night vision goggles. Not ridiculous enough? The set will also come with a “Soap” MacTavish head to place the goggles on when not in use. If this was the 1st of April, I wouldn’t be surprised, but like, really? It seems a little crazy to me; crazy, but awesome. No word on price yet, but you can see it for yourself in the video below. So hurry up and preorder; not sure how many of these babies will be on the market.
That’s right, if you were a member to receive the Gold or Platinum designation on your Club Nintendo account by registering 300 or 600+ points, then you can now order your exclusive gift.
For Platinum members, you can choose between Doc Louis’s Punch Out, which is Wii DLC which allows you to take on your coach, Doc Louis, in a round of boxing. And don’t worry, you can still get this even if you don’t own the retail game.
Another option for Platinum members, and the one I chose, is a replica Mario Hat, which looks semi-cool, and will definitely become my new profile picture once I get my hands on it.
For Gold Members, you get a nice 2010 Calendar, featuring an assortment of Nintendo games and characters.
Overall, these rewards didn’t blow me away, but hey, they’re better than nothing. So, if you were a Gold or Platinum member, then scurry on off to club.nintendo.com and accept your gift. You only have until August 11th to do so, so get on it.

Velvet Assassin lets you take control of Violette Summer, a French agent sent behind enemy lines in World War II to put a stop to Nazi goings-on. Unfortunately, she winds up in a hospital somewhere in Germany, where half of the story is told, through flash-backs. Does Violette have what it takes to sneak around and thwart the enemy, or will she simply be captured? It’s up to you to help Violette in this stealth-shooter.
Okay, look, I have NO disclaimers or age-gates on this site. Deal with it. By coming to this site you’re acknowledging the fact that you might seen violent things or hear some “no-no” words. With that said, I give to you Penn and Tell’s newest episode of Bullshit. This week Penn covers the “Games Make Kids Violent” schtick”. This is your last warning, be prepared for more foul language than an after-hours party at Russell Simmon’s Def Comedy Jam.
