Review - ColorZ

Friday, September 25th, 2009 by Zach Potts

Title: ColorZ
Publisher/Developer: Exkee/Exkee
Platforms: WiiWare
Release Date: 09/7/2009
Number of players: 1-3 players locally

ColorZ, a new WiiWare game, is one of the simplest in concept that I have played recently, but by golly, it isn’t easy. It starts off simply enough, allowing you to control a single ship through a level while trying to avoid dissimilar colored enemies, but once you start controlling 2 and 3 ships, it gets crazy. Do you have what it takes to navigate through all the levels? Maybe, but it’ll take some practice.

Review - Defense Grid: The Awakening

Friday, September 25th, 2009 by The ReanimatedFish

itle: Defense Grid
Publisher/Developer: Aspyr/Hidden Path Entertainment
Platforms: PC and Xbox 360
Release Date: 12/08/08
Number of players/Multiplayer: 1 no multiplayer

This is a review that’s going to be very short, because there’s not a whole lot to talk about. I sat back for days thinking of talking points, and there aren’t that many for a game in this genre. However, in any area that matters, Defense Grid shines like a lighthouse in a storm of bland Tower Defense titles.

Frank West Announced for Tatsunoko vs Capcom

Friday, September 25th, 2009 by Zach Potts

Yes, those rumors were true, and today at TGS, Capcom confirmed that Frank West, the super reporter who has covered wars from Dead Rising, will be a playable character in Tatsunoko vs Capcom for the Wii.

Pretty cool stuff. That’ll be one interesting fighter.

Modern Warfare 2 Branded Xbox 360

Friday, September 25th, 2009 by Zach Potts

During a special Modern Warfare 2 conference this evening, Activision announced that there will be a special Xbox 360 bundle coming this November. For $399, you’ll get a specially branded MW2 Xbox 360, two controllers, Modern Warfare 2 Standard Edition, and a 250Gig HDD. Why exactly do you need a 250gig harddrive? No idea, but hey, it’s in there, and sorry, but no night vision goggles.

Review - Sacred 2 - Indefineably Bland

Friday, September 25th, 2009 by The ReanimatedFish

Title: Sacred 2: Fallen Angel
Publisher/Developer: CDV Software Entertainment/Ascaron
Platforms: Windows PC, Playstation 3, Xbox 360
Release Date: 05/11/2009
Number of players/Multiplayer: 16 in PVP 5 in PVE 2 on screen multiplayer.

Sacred 2 is a strange little title whisked in to us from a mysterious foreign land marked as ‘here be dragons’ on the world map. A land better known as Germany. While better known for beer, sausage and zany mustaches, the land of my ancestors apparently can churn out a decent game, too. Decent is all the game can seem to muster.

Batman to bring Insane Nights to gamers

Thursday, September 24th, 2009 by Zach Potts

Come this Thursday, gamers will have even more to play in what some would call the best super hero game yet. Insane Nights, a free set of DLC, will be coming to all versions of Batman: Arkham Asylum.

The pack will come with two new challenge maps, each of which are a bit unique. One tests your skills in hand-to-hand combat, while the other is for stealth.

I’m not sure how much entertainment you can get out of this pack, but probably a bit, and considering it’s free, there is no reason not to download it come Thursday. Another free pack is also set for October 24th, so it’s good to see the developers supporting the game without nickle-and-diming the players.

Wii is officially priced $199

Thursday, September 24th, 2009 by Zach Potts

Starting next week in the US, the Wii will officially go down from $249.99 to $199.99. There were lots of rumors going around and ads from a variety of companies, and at TGS, the announcement made it official.

This was definitely a move Nintendo needed to make to keep their competitive edge in the market, what with price drops from both Sony and Microsoft just recently.

MMOWTF: Champions Launch Impressions

Monday, September 7th, 2009 by Jack Marshall

From the desk of the Editor:

As part of our new MMOWTF feature here at Gamers Platform we look at upcoming and recently launched MMOs and see just how they stack up. If you miss the beta, you don’t feel like buying a game you can’t test or you just plain don’t have enough time to sample from the buffet that is the MMO genre in gaming, this is a chance to get a brief look at these massive MoFos as they come online.

Jack makes his Gamers Platform debut with a brief rundown on his Champions Online launch experience. Jack and myself were actually long-time players of the PnP version of Champions Online. It goes without saying, yet I will still type it, that we were watching this one with a little anticipation. How’d it go? Well, I will let Jack give you his brief thoughts. Read on, true believers!

Review - Shadow Complex

Friday, September 4th, 2009 by The ReanimatedFish

Title: Shadow Complex
Deverlop/Publisher: Chair Ent. in conjuction with Epic Games/Microsoft Game Studios:
Platforms: XBOX Live Arcade
Release Date: 08/19/2009
Number of players/Multiplayer: 1 player

This is a game which is near and dear to my heart for so many reasons. I can scarcely list them all without putting you to sleep. I’ll do my best to cram it all in somehow and hopefully still entertain and enlighten a bit. But then again, I’m the reviewer so being a bag of wind is my prerogative, so you may have to struggle through here and there as your fee for admission.
