So, there’s been some confusion as to what “open beta” has meant for Star Trek online. Normally, one would think it would be a matter of signing up, getting a key and going at it. Unfortunately, as it stands right now, the STO website still states that you need to attain a key from a pre-order method (or to have already gotten one from a much earlier sign-up). However, the folks over at TenTonHammer.com have some keys ready to go. You can grab one here . Keep in mind that you’ll still need to download an 8.5GB client, which is taking forever with the current system, and that the Open Beta itself starts tomorrow, January 12th at 6pm GMT.
Make it so, bitches.

From the desk of the Editor:
As part of our new MMOWTF feature here at Gamers Platform we look at upcoming and recently launched MMOs and see just how they stack up. If you miss the beta, you don’t feel like buying a game you can’t test or you just plain don’t have enough time to sample from the buffet that is the MMO genre in gaming, this is a chance to get a brief look at these massive MoFos as they come online.
Jack makes his Gamers Platform debut with a brief rundown on his Champions Online launch experience. Jack and myself were actually long-time players of the PnP version of Champions Online. It goes without saying, yet I will still type it, that we were watching this one with a little anticipation. How’d it go? Well, I will let Jack give you his brief thoughts. Read on, true believers!

Two in the box. Ready to go. We be fast. And they be slow! That’s right, we got to strap on our Proton Packs and get our pyschokenetically charged hands on Atari and Terminal Reality’s upcoming Ghostbusters: The Video Game. Bear in mind folks, this is a preview and not a review. That being said, even for a preview things are looking good for our favourite spook-hunters.

Developer/Publisher: Starbreeze AB / Atari
Platform: Xbox 360, PS3, PC
Release Date: 04/7/2009
Number of Players: 1 single player, 2-12 online
The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena is a sequel to 2004’s Xbox exclusive Escape from Butcher Bay. Dark Athena plays almost identically to Butcher Bay, featuring the same first-person perspective and including many similar mechanics, but naturally having a unique storyline which follows Riddick on a quest to escape a prisoner ship and the clutches of some ruthless mercenaries. Not only does Dark Athena feature this all new adventure, but it also includes the original Butcher Bay game, except newly remastered with enhanced graphics, as well as some online multiplayer.

Okay, I can admit it: I am a geek. I actually still own all my sourcebooks for Champions as I’ve played the Pen and Paper version of the games since I was in High School. Needless to say, I’ve been out of High School for quite some time now (I’m 33 for those of you who ever wondered… and for those of you who didn’t care). Nevertheless, I’ve had my eye on Champions Online like a hawk since it was first announced. Atari and Cryptic are pleased to announce today that the release date for Champions Online for the PC is set for July 14th worldwide. Of course, what would an announcement like that be worth without some new trailers? Not one, but two trailers in fact! Read on, true believers!

Yeah, G4 announced this as 15 minutes, but I am calling them on it! Why? Because I can. Of course, now I am even more amped to get my hands on this bad-boy. We “would” have had a review build already if someone hadn’t ran off with it. But at the very least we’ll get our hands on this title near it’s release. I have to admit, I missed out on Butcher Bay, namely because I didn’t have an Xbox. So you can imagine how happy I was when I first heard that Butcher Bay was re-made and will be released on the same disk as Dark Athena. Two for the price of one!
I digress, you want the video…

For those of you with Xbox Live Gold accounts it’s time to go back into the dark. The demo for Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena is out now. For everyone else the demo will be available on the 11th for Silver member of XBL and “soon” for the Playstation Network, which probably means sometime next week.
Either way, you Gold Members and get your Dark on now. Just get online and get that demo!

Title: The Witcher: Enhanced Edition
Publisher/Developer: Atari/CD Projekt RED STUDIO
Platforms: Windows PC
Release Date: 09/16/2008
Number of players/Multiplayer: Single-player
Now, normally I don’t review titles that have been out for over a year. However, there’s always the stray “expansion” to review. Oddly enough, I can’t place The Witcher: Enhanced Edition in either of those categories. I know we’re a bit late to the party when it comes to getting the review out, but quite frankly this is one of those rare-gem games that deserves a little extra special treatment from me. Certainly as you can tell by my opening I am going to have a lot of good to say about The Witcher in general. So let’s go ahead and dive into this review head first. Bear with me now; this is going to be a long one as I am effectively going to cover two games in one here.
