Yes, congratulations are indeed in order. For what you may ask? For being the first console I’ve ever owned to go bottoms-up on me. As of 11:19pm Pacific my Xbox 360 Elite, allegedly more stable in its hardware than previous models, opted to take a steamer on itself. When I powered the unit up today to check out Flock from Capcom the unit hissed loudly then locked the screen, leaving it pixelated. Upon a reboot I was greeted by the famed and dreaded 3 Red Rings of Death. The unit is listed as “out of standard warranty” despite the extension provided a while back retro-actively by Microsoft. This unit would have turned two years old on the 29th of this month.
Supposedly, the 3 RRoD is still covered as per Microsoft’s own warranty page (though all links to the extension announced a while back have mysteriously disappeared). Honestly, this is no shock to me. In the years I’ve worked in the IT industry Microsoft has crapped out on me more than any other companies combined. In other news, my launch Wii and Playstation 3 60GB models are still running fine. Thankfully, we have a debug 360 handy here as well. Of course, that doesn’t diminish my disappointment in Microsoft yet again. I’ll talk to them on Monday and give them a stern tongue-lashing and we’ll see what they have to say.
It’s hard to figure out where to start with my review of Resident Evil 5. The Resident Evil series of games has long since been one my favourite series. Those of you how have been reading my writing for the last couple years know that survival-horror is far and above my favourite genre of games. Resident Evil was actually one of the two titles that enticed me to buy my first Playstation (the other involved cars, guns, and a crazy clown… see if you can guess). While it goes without saying I will say it anyway, Resident Evil 5 had made its way onto my personal radar the moment it was announced. Now, I’ve played through the bugger 5 times. How did reality hold up to the hype? Read on.
Now, I was already damned interested in Dark Void as it was, but to make things even better Capcom has announced that Bear McCreary will be composing the score for the game! McCreary is best known for, in my honest and humble opinion, his fantastic work on Battlestar Galactica. Yes, I own all three seasons soundtracks. Yes, I will buy season 4 when it comes out. If you’ve never watched BSG, you are missing out (well missed out).
Check this out! Adam’s NOT mad this week! Well, frustrated maybe, but not mad at the very least. I have to say that I can feel his pain here given the fact that this Sess-Feed was emailed to right at the same time that I am working my way through Resident Evil 5 (Yes, the review will be up soon. No, I don’t agree with Adam’s review of it either.) looking for all the BSAA emblems.
At one point in my life I honestly found myself at odds with Adam’s opinions on most things. As of late, I happily swallow my pride and admit that I find myself nodding in agreement more and more often. Now, I am not sure if that’s because I’ve changed, he’s changed or someone is slipping something into the water. Either way, Soapbox Sess strikes again. Adam’s not dragging his feet like a zombie on this one…

While it’s not directly related to gaming news I thought I would share a tidbit with those of you who, like me, like to try to give back to the community when we can. Capcom, in conjunction with the American Red Cross, have a nice little community event planned for Resident Evil 5 on March 13th.
Come Give Resident Evil 5 A Shot and…
Make A Positive Change For the Community on Resident Evil 5 Launch Day
Zombies are always welcome on my gaming consoles. Ninja v. Pirates, ha! Zombies would school them both. Well, Capcom has officially announced Dead Rising 2 today. The sequel to the 1.5 million copy selling Zombie-fest will actually be sauntering over to multiple platforms off-the-bat this time…
