Looking Back at 2008 - Metal Gear Solid 4

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009 by Ryan L. Lopees

Title: Metal Gear Solid 4
Publisher/Developer: Konami/Kojima Prod.
Platform: Playstation 3
Release Date: 06-12-2008
Number of Players: Single-Player (MGS4)/ 16 Online (MGO)

Looking back again at the goodies we received as gamers in 2008, I can’t look past Metal Gear Solid 4, no matter how much I try. I never did get around to writing a first review and for that I have shamed myself. Hopefully, I can rectify that today. Where to even begin on what has to be one of the grandest, most epic scale games I have ever had the grace of playing? 20 years of Metal Gear. I remember my 8-bit, glory days. In fact, I’d would say that some my earliest gaming memories entail Metal Gear. I am not sure I will be able to keep this review to my characteristically short review form (that was sarcasm). Every so often a game so huge, so massive, so ginormous comes about that there’s just no way getting around its grand details.

More Little Big Planet: Metal Gear Style

Friday, December 19th, 2008 by Zach Potts

Yes, there is even MORE Little Big Planet coming, and no signs of it slowing. This time, there is some Metal Gear content headed your way. Come December 23rd, you’ll be able to download the MGS Costume Pack and MGS Level Pack. The Costume Pack contains Old Snake, Meryl, Screaming Mantis, and Raiden and is set at $5.99 or $1.99 for each. The Level Pack comes with a Gurlokovich Soldier, 72 stickers, 12 materials, 10 decorations, and 18 objects. The Level Pack also comes with 5 story levels and 1 challenge level, which include a lot of new music tracks and items and gadgets. And apparently there is some sort of Paintinator, or paint switch, which acts like a gun, and new trophies. And all that is $5.99.

Metal Gear Solid Touch Coming to iPhone/iPod

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008 by Zach Potts

Yes, that mysterious Metal Gear game that was hinted at a week or two ago has been confirmed by Konami to be coming for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The game will be set in the MGS4 universe, featuring Old Snake, and contain 8 stages, and possibly more via DLC. Also, it seems that the points you gain while playing the game can be used to unlock some nifty items for your product, such as wallpapers.

I’m sure we will get many, many more details when Metal Gear Solid Touch reaches its release in the Spring of ‘09.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Review

Thursday, June 19th, 2008 by Zach Potts

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is my most anticipated game of the year I would have to say, and luckily, my brother’s roommate had a PS3 for me to play it on. From the second I got the game from Blockbuster, I was really excited, and that excitement didn’t end until the game did; magnificent ending by the way.

The game opens up like it did in the trailers, with you playing as Snake in the Middle East tracking Liquid Ocelot. Luckily, the game moves around from area to area, and you aren’t stuck in the Middle East for the entire game. You travel across the world and only stay in one area for a single act. The game is split into five acts I believe it is, each of which features a different local, which keeps things interesting.

Metal Gear Solid Database

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008 by Zach Potts

Tomorrow, Thursday, the Metal Gear Solid Database will become available via the Playstation Store. Luckily, the download is free, and is an interactive application where you can find out anything you ever wanted to know about the MGS series, including story lines, character profiles, and how everyone and thing is connected. Should be pretty sweet and provide a nice way for you to fully understand what the hell happened in MGS2.

Metal Gear Solid Book

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008 by Zach Potts

By Raymond Benson, this book is of Solid Snake’s mission on Shadow Mosses, which would be the first game on the Playstation, retold as Twin Snakes for the GCN. Unfortunately, there are no pictures in this book, so that’s unfortunate. It would have been nice to have some MGS graphic-novel-like images stuck in there, but no.

It’s cool to see it now in book form, and maybe we’ll get original stories on Snake’s missions. Hopefully it is truthful to the series, and isn’t just full of a bunch of crap that doesn’t really happen in the series.

MGS4 to have 90 minute cut-scenes

Friday, May 23rd, 2008 by Zach Potts

According to PSW magazine, there are multiple cut scenes in Metal Gear Solid 4 that range in the 90-minute mark. Luckily, you can choose to either skip these scenes or pause them at anytime if you need a break from watching them.

I mean, the MGS series has always had a strong narrative and long cut scenes, but 90 minutes is stretching it. That’s some serious stuff. That’s as long as some movies. Ridiculous, and awesome, all at the same time…but mostly ridiculous.

Perhaps MGS5 from Kojima?

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008 by Zach Potts

From an interview from the Japanese magazine, Famistu, Hideo Kojima says ”

I gotta start thinking about MGS5… Even though, well, Snake’s story ends in MGS4….

About MGS5, that would be something that Kojima Productions would have to make, I think.”

So, starting from “This is the last Metal Gear,” to “It’s the end of Snake’s story,” to now “I have to start thinking about MGS5,” I’m not really sure what to think. Kojima was supposed to get out of the MGS series, but it seems like he may stick with it for another game or two.
