Review - Dante’s Inferno: A Hellishly Good Time—Mostly…

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 by Flatliner

Title: Dante’s Inferno
Platforms: Xbox 360, PS3, PSP
Developer: Visceral Games
Publisher: Electronic Arts
Release date: 2/28/2010

Recently, I’ve been thinking a lot about the role of religion in games. More specifically, I’ve thought about the role and presentation of Judeo-Christian religions in our favorite medium. I’m intrigued by how it’s handled, what developers decide to show us, and how this theme is received by the gaming public. All that stuff aside, Dante’s Inferno is a good game. But it has earned its reputation as a God of War clone. Earned it and seemingly wears it proudly.

Interview: The Dante’s Inferno Team

Saturday, March 6th, 2010 by Flatliner

PS3, XB360, PSP
Developed by Visceral Games
Published by Electronic Arts
Releasing: 02/09/2010

Looking to cut a swath across the gaming landscape this first quarter is Dante’s Inferno. The game has garnered some attention and some controversy from the gaming community. With a demo already released on both Playstation Network and Xbox Live, gamers have been able to get a look for themselves about what this game will really be about. Are we just looking at a God of War clone, or is there something else there for us to experience? Recently, we here at Gamers Platform had an opportunity to sit in on a roundtable interview session with three key members of the development team for Dante’s Inferno: Jonathan Knight- executive producer, Mike Cheng- level designer, and Vincent Napoli- lead combat designer.

First Impressions: Dante’s Inferno (Demo) “Burn baby Burn!!”

Friday, December 18th, 2009 by Flatliner

Publisher: Electronic Arts
Developer: Visceral Games
ESRB Rating: M (most deservedly so)
Platforms: PS3, Xbox 360, PSP
Previewed: PS3 Demo

Timeless literature can be a very rich source of inspiration for game developers. Adapting literary classics for consumption by today’s audiences can really go a long way toward raising appreciation for these classics, as well as testing limits of vision and imagination. A few years ago, we were ‘treated’ to the adaptation of the epic poem “Beowulf” in film and, a bit less successfully, in game form, and now we have the literary classic of “The Divine Comedy”, more specifically its first act “(Dante’s) Inferno” re-imagined and personified in interactive media.

Assassin’s Creed Lineage Short Film Tonight

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009 by Ryan L. Lopees

That’s right next week will see not one, but three Assassin’s Creed titles releasing: Assassin’s Creed 2 for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, Assassin’s Creed Bloodlines for the PSP and Assassin’s Creed II Discovery for the Nintendo DS. But the hype-machine doesn’t stop there. Tonight, Spike TV will be premiering (on television anyway) “Assassin’s Creed: Lineage”, a short, live-action film based on the story of the upcoming AC II release. Normally, I don’t buy into the hype-machine, but I have to say that, from what I have seen so far, both the short film and the game are looking great! Check your local listings (or do what I do and set your DVR because you have absolutely no sense of time anymore).

X-men Origins: Wolverine Review

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009 by Ryan L. Lopees

 Title: X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Developer/Publisher: Raven Software/Activision
Platform: PC, Playstation 2, Playstation 3, PSP, Wii, DS, Xbox 360
Release Date: 05/01/2009
Number of Players: Single-player

Let me open by stating the fact that I actually have yet to see the film. Normally, that is a good thing with video game tie-in titles. However, from everything I’ve heard the movie does the IP just as much justice as the game. That said, and after having puts hours upon hours into the game, let’s get our Snikt! on and see how Raven Soft handled the latest Wolverine title.

PSP Review - Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero?

Monday, January 12th, 2009 by Ryan L. Lopees

Title: Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero?
Publisher/Developer: NIS
Platforms: PSP
Release Date: 2/17/2009
Number of Players: 1

Let them eat cake! Well, okay, not cake. How about the “Ultimate Desert”? The Steel Chef decries that the special ingredient is… Prinny! Well, that’s not fair, no one is actually going to eat a Prinny, but they are the special ingredient to this game from Nippon Ichi Software (NIS). In Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero, or the “main character, Dood” as more directly translated, gamers are once again treated to the tested system of giving a supporting character from previous game titles their own game.

Black Friday Gaming Update

Monday, November 10th, 2008 by Matt Cross

Black Friday, as we all know, is the biggest shopping day of the year here in the states. When the full-of-turkey American people wake up at the butt-crack of dawn (or even stay up) to be first in line at various stores nationwide to get the hottest deals. But what about us gamers?

Luckily for us, there are loads of deals around the country at pretty much everywhere that sells video games. I’ve gotten some info about a few deals coming in from Sears and K-Mart. Check it out:
