Review - Bayonetta

Saturday, January 16th, 2010 by Mark-12

Bayonetta

Title: Bayonetta
Publisher/Developer: Sega/Platinum Games
Platforms: PS3 and XBOX 360
Release Date: 01/05/10
Number of Players: Single-player

I’m going to start by saying I’ve NEVER played any of the “Devil May Cry” games. I’ve heard a lot of early previews say that this is either “Devil May Cry done right,” or “a good successor to Devil May Cry.” Since I’d never played any of them (I know, shun me), I wanted to give Bayonetta a try. I have a hard time comparing this to any other game, to be honest. It’s not due to my lack of gaming knowledge, it’s because the character concept for Bayonetta is so unique. She’s a gun wielding witch that can do nifty fighting techniques. Okay, let me amend that, the character concept reminded me of the game, “Bullet Witch” a lot. Bayonetta runs around with 4 handguns, two in hand and two strapped to her ankles. Her common attacks are based around a mix of melee, weapon and magical hair-based attacks. As you progress through game, you’re able to pick up other guns and melee weapons. As you get different types of weapons, you can have custom weapon loadouts. These different loadouts will change the basics of her attack combos and what attacks they do.

New MadWorld Trailer

Friday, December 12th, 2008 by Zach Potts

The new trailer shows off the game’s story and more gameplay, where it seems it will mostly be a pure beat ‘em up, mixed with those mini-games and fabulous implements of death.

MadWorld is one of my most anticipated titles of ‘09 and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. Expect lots of coverage come 2009.

Sonic Unleashed now available for Wii and PS2

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008 by Zach Potts

Today, Sonic Unleashed for both the Wii and PS2 have been shipped to retail stores. Many fans have been hoping that this title will restore the Sonic name, and now you can find out for yourself.

The standard day levels look intense, with some insane speed and cool maneuvering, but how will the game play out during the night, when Sonic transforms into a werehog? Get your hands on a copy and see for yourself if this game does the series justice, or is yet another weird tangent from Sonic glory days past.

For those looking for that “next-gen” experience, you’ll have to wait a bit longer. The Xbox 360 version comes out on November 24th, while the PS3 version comes out sometime in December.

If you didn’t have a chance to download the Valkyria Chronicles demo through the Qore Episode, you might want to check out the Playstation Store today as Sega has announced that the demo will be finally going to be public to every PS3 owner out there.

Valkyria Chronicles is the first strategy RPG for the Playstation 3 and it’s exclusive from Sega. From the looks of the game through videos, it’s going to be promising, but we can’t say for sure until the game is released next month.

Sonic Unleashed Gameplay Video Trailer

Friday, September 12th, 2008 by Zach Potts

Sega of America has released new gameplay video of Sonic Unleashed to tease all Sonic fans out there. Don’t worry folks, the game will come out before Christmas!

In order to re-unite a shattered world, Sonic the Hedgehog races from continent to continent fighting Dr. Eggman’s evil minions. One such content is the naturally striking Chun-nan. With forests of ancient bamboo and stunning architecture — such as a great stone dragon which snakes its way through the landscape — Chun-nan is one of the most distinct places Sonic has ever visited.”

Sega announces House of the Dead: Overkill for Wii

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008 by Zach Potts

At Leipzig this week, Sega announced that a new House of the Dead game, entitled Overkill, is being made for the Wii by Headstrong, formerly Kuju.

The trailer is interesting, and in the vain of an old movie trailer. All the gameplay shown is through a filter, so it’s kind of hard to tell how good the game looks, but the graphics do look pretty smooth overall. It looks like the game will take place in a carnival, which may or may not be interesting…I just hope it is decently long, has some co-op, and a nice variety of weapons. It’s good to see some more Sega IP’s, and luckily it’s a brand new one and not some remake/port, so hopefully it will take advantage of the system. Expect the game in 2009.
