Rediscovering my love of “Halo”

Saturday, March 6th, 2010 by Flatliner

A long time ago, I owned a heavy black game system with green touches known as the Xbox. And on this system, I had one of the best experiences in my gaming life when I played through the original “Halo: Combat Evolved”. At the time, I didn’t realize that the first person shooter genre had been relatively unsuccessful on home consoles (Goldeneye: 007 on the N64 notwithstanding), nor did I foresee that this game would revolutionize the way that the genre was even thought about in the living room. I just fell in love with the main character, forever known as “Master Chief” and his sidekick “Cortana”, and I was engrossed in the epic nature of their story.

Looking Back at 2008 - Gears of War 2

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009 by Ryan L. Lopees

Title: Gears of War 2
Publisher/Developer: Microsoft Games/Epic Games
Platform: Xbox 360
Release Date: 11/07/2008
Number of Players: Single-player and Co-op Campaign/ 10 players Online

You already know how this will end… Yeah, the commercials for this bad-boy are still stuck in my head. Rightfully so, too, given that I am still playing the hell out of Gears 2 to this very date (yes, I am an achievement monger so working for “Seriously” and “Party Like It’s 1999” are some achievements that take a little time). As I look back on 2008 I am taking the time to re-review some games that have already been covered by some of our other writers. When it came to First Person Shooter sequels for 2008, two were high on my list. I will cover the second one in another article. Suffice it to say, Gears 2 was one of them. So what are Marcus and Dom up to theses days? Well, I will tell you that whatever they are up to, they are up to their necks in it.

Xbox Live Catalog Update

Thursday, December 11th, 2008 by Zach Potts

Becoming available yesterday at the Xbox Arcade, were Meteos Wars and PowerUp Forever, both for 800 MS Points. Meteos Wars is a sequel, so to speak, from the DS version of the game, which was fantastic and addictive, and the Xbox version is looking like it will provide all the same frenetic gameplay. PowerUp Forever is a shooter where you blast your way to victory, taking on wave after wave of enemies and power up your weapons as you go for ultimate victory. The game also comes with a level generator, so every time you play, you’ll be looking at something new.

Also, come December 15th, two new Xbox Original games will become available for download; Sega Soccer Slam and Raze’s Hell, both for 1200 MS Points.

Microsoft Swinging the Banhammer

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 by Matt Cross

Careful modders, Xbox is looking for you. According to Xbox Live’s Major Nelson, there are tons of accounts getting the banhammer swung at them right now. Rumors are swirling as to the main cause behind the recent bannings, with some saying it could be due in part to gamers abusing pirated copies of some of the latest big releases like World at War and Gears 2. I like to think they are hopefully banning cheaters, cause everyone is annoyed with them. Whatever the case may be, consider this just a heads up to be on the lookout for those of you who got any of the latest big titles early, you could be next.

Call of Duty: World at War Public Beta

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008 by Matt Cross

Good news for the Xbox 360 gamers out there. The Call of Duty: World at War beta has now gone public and is available to download on Xbox Live!

I had the chance to play before the game went public, and I felt as though it had more of the feel of pre-Modern Warfare CoD. May just be me nitpicking, but I prefer the feel of the Modern Warfare a bit more. It probably won’t take much time to get used to though, as World at War is still a great shooter, and is sure to be a hot title this holiday season.

So fire up the Xboxes, and start your download now! Let us know what you think! Hit up the comments and tell us if you love it or hate it!

Circuit City Discounts Galore

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008 by Matt Cross

As some of you may have heard by now, Circuit City has begun to close some of their stores in effort to not completely go under as a company. While obviously this is terrible news for the many people working at these stores, it does bode as a little bit of good news for gamers.

Why you might ask? Well, discounts of course! With the stores closing, they’ll likely try and shuffle stock around, but for those that aren’t, there are deals to be had!

As of now, most of the Circuit City stores are offering discounts on systems, accessories, PC games, strategy guides, and what they have dubbed “social” games (such as Rock Band, Guitar Hero, etc.). Hit the jump for the full breakdown of current discounts, as well as a list and addresses of the stores that are closing, and there are a ton of them.

Mirror’s Edge Demo Sooner than Later

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008 by Matt Cross

Good news free-runner (or parkour) fans! It looks as though the demo for the hot upcoming title Mirror’s Edge is going to be coming out sooner than we thought!

EA just announced that the free-runner demo is getting bumped up and will now hit consoles this week! On the 30th you can catch it on Xbox Live, while the 31st will be the release date for the Playstation 3. The demo is going to include the prologue, tutorial, and a portion of the single-player story mode.

For those of you who pre-ordered, don’t forget you’ll also be getting a code that unlocks Time Trial mode.

I’m looking forward to playing this title. Seems like a pretty interesting concept, so we’ll see how it plays it. What about you, are you looking forward to this one? Hit up the comments and let me know!
